Neon Run 2014 in Cape Town: Photos
Fazielah Williams has lived in and loved her Mother City since birth. Having lived all over the Peninsula during her childhood, she now calls the picturesque City Bowl home and likes nothing more than watching the sun set over Table Bay from the window of her apartment.
A lover of the arts and proud Cape Town fanatic, Fazielah began her writing career by spending many hours as a child conjuring fantastical stories that featured independent heroines from faraway lands who saved the Prince instead. This Capetonian princess has enjoyed stints as a magical arts PRO and TV publicist before finding her calling as a travel writer.
When not waxing lyrical about the Fairest Cape’s most loved attractions and activities and embarking on unexpected adventures, Fazielah can usually be found taking in a show at one of the City’s fabulous theatres.
I always knew Cape Town was insanely spectacular looking at night but when you add 5000 brightly coloured runners to that dark background for the first ever Neon Run, it blows my mind!
On Saturday 10 May, 2014; colour-crazy Capetonians, visitors, friends and families descended on the Cape Town Stadium forecourt for an epic night they’ll never forget…
From the mouth-wateringly good food trucks ( special mention here to Joe’s Dinner for what can only be described as the Heaven-on-a-bun beef burger) to the mega after-party featuring the talented band, The Kiffness, electronic music master Dean Fuel and my all-time favourite Jo’Burger DJ Roger Goode and ,of course, the 5 km fun run all along the Sea Point Promenade and through the Green Point Urban Park with UV lights at strategically placed “Glow Stations” so you could really capture those florescent colours; this inaugural event rocked the Mother City like never before.
I attend plenty of events in Cape Town (tough job to have, huh?), and while they are all amazing, it’s rare to see one as well attended, organised and family-orientated ( seriously, there were grandparents with babies in strollers and pet owners with neon-clothed kitted dogs!) as the Neon Run.
Add to that the fact that my friends and I joined other runners for a colourful Moulille Point Lighthouse Playpark session and channelling our inner children by trying out everything from the swings to the sliding board before getting down to the hottest dance party with strobe lightsand interesting characters, this is the most fun I’ve had in the Mother City, Africa’s events capital.
Well done, Four Fire Productions, on a fantastic event! Mercedes-Benz captured the thrill in this super-hip video!
