MyDestination’s Vagabrothers in Cape Town: Videos
Here’s the thing I love most about my job: I get to hang out with some of the most interesting visitors to our beautiful Mother City and the coolest by far are the Vagabrothers, winners of MyDestination’s Biggest Baddest Bucket List competition, who jetted into Cape Town from Wednesday 30 October to Wednesday 6 November, 2013.
Mark and Alex Ayling, hailing from San Diego, California, beat nine other finalists to win the tantalizing prize of US$50 000 and a global six month journey. Our fair city was the last African stop on their worldwide trip and boy, did they get around!
From getting a bird’s eye view of Cape Town from aboard the Cape Town Helicopters to admiring a beautiful sunset on top of Table Mountain, our Wonder of Nature, and hitting the awesome swells of Llandudno (thanks to tips from the renowned South African surfer Jordy Smith) before getting down eKasi (township) style with the locals at Mzoli’s Place in vibrant Gugulethu, the brothers sure saw our hometown in all of its splendour.
Their fun didn’t end there, though. Exhilarating thrills awaited the boys as they explored the Peninsula in, wait for it, a side car with Cape Side Car Adventures before getting up close and personal with Jaws’ South African cousins in a Marine Dynamics’ shark cage diving experience they won’t soon forget.
No visit to #lovecapetown is complete without savouring its wine and beer culture so our charming duo soaked up the award-winning wines of the impressive Groot Constantia before test tasting their way through craft beers all along Long and Bree Streets. After long, beautiful days out in the Mother City, the brothers headed back to Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel and Ashanti Lodge to lay down their weary heads.
