Muizenberg surfers – Flickr pic of the day
Hirohiko says, “Walking on Muizenberg beach always relaxes me. It is one of my favourite places in Cape Town and I love the friendly atmosphere of the beach.
“I came across this scene which reminded me of the simple but important truth that everyone learns when they try something new. The first step is always taken with mixed feelings of fear and excitement – something we should not forget!
“Taking photos is an indispensable part of my daily life, although being a photographer for many years might have spoiled the pure heart of my beginner days.
“Cape Town is full of photo opportunities, be they in nature, of people, or on the street, so I never get bored!” he continues.
Although Muizenberg beach lacks the dazzling turquoise ocean and dramatic boulders of beaches like Clifton and Llandudno, the water is much warmer to swim in than the beaches on the Atlantic Seaboard. It is also flat and wide, and the water is generally calm, so it is well suited to children.
It is a popular surfing spot, although the waves aren’t enormous, and is ideal for body-boarders and novices.
