Muizenberg Moonlight Meander
Wrapped up warmly for walking in the dark
About 80 people wrapped up warmly and joined community safety volunteer organisation Safer Together for the ninth Muizenberg Moonlight Meander on Saturday, August 8.
The Meander was started in December 2008, with the idea of “taking the beach back for the community”. “Meanderers” walk the beach in safety on the Saturday evening closest to full moon, accompanied by members of the local neighbourhood watch groups.
The August Meander was the first in many months blessed with good (though chilly) weather – but Safer Together is pleased that it could keep the event going through the winter months.
The August event was attended by a number of regulars, as well as by many newcomers and family groups. People came from as far as Kenilworth and Simon’s Town.
It seems the word is spreading, and the project can only grow as the weather improves.
The next Meander is on Saturday, September 5 at 18h00. The walk begins at 18h30 from the corner in front of Knead Bakery at Surfer’s Corner on Beach Road. The bakery opens specially on Meander Saturday evenings.
