2011 MK Awards held in Cape Town

The 2011 MK Awards were held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Saturday night. MK, a highly popular and mostly Afrikaans dedicated music television channel, broadcast the proceedings live, while attracting thousands of people from across South Africa to the event itself.

MK presenter Elma Smit played host for the evening, together with popular South African comedians Corné and Twakkie, who had the crowd in hysterics with their ridiculous moustaches, outfits, and quips. There were also a variety of live performances from the likes of Prime Circle, Jack Parow, JR, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Foto Na Dans, as well as Zebra & Giraffe.

Some nominees from outside the Western Cape took the opportunity to perform at various venues around Cape Town after the ceremony: Pixie Bennet of The Pixie Bennett Band, a nominee for best newcomer, entertained at Tiger Tiger in Claremont, for example.

Below are few photos from the awards evening.
