It was the night many of Cape Town’s metalheads been waiting for, for more than seven years ... legendary band Metallica’s return to the Mother City, live in a rocking concert at the Bellville Velodrome on Wednesday 24 April, 2013!

Despite a wait of more than two hours to get into the massive indoor venue, which is a rare performance setting choice for Metallica as band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo prefer stadium and outdoor stages these days, fans' fervour to see their favourite band was undimmed.

Even the supporting act, local rock group Van Coke Kartel, couldn’t compete with the iconic headbangers, as concert-goer David Platt attested to on Twitter:

“Reckon Van Coke Kartel should just los ( leave) it. Everyone here screaming for Metallica and NOTHING else #MetallicaCPT”   David Platt ‏@Platzky14h

Never ones to disappoint their loyal admirers, Metallica thrashed the Bellville Velodrome with hits like Creeping Death, Fuel and The Day That Never Comes. This is what you guys had to say about it:

“Awesome concert #MetallicaCPT success is when you still can't hear the next morning ...“ – @Rokatana

“Shiiit @metallica were epic. Second time round & better than ever. Goosebumps when they played One. Wow. Go see them tomorrow! #metallicacpt”   Darryn van der Walt ‏@darrynvdwalt

“Lugosi and Karloff? Loved Kirk's classic horror guitars and every second of @Metallica's incredible performance. #metallicacpt”   David Platt ‏@Platzky7h
