Mandela Day Events 2013 in Cape Town
It’s Tata Madiba’s 95th birthday on Thursday 18 July, 2013 and in Cape Town there plenty to do to embody the spirit of the legendary Nelson Mandela.
The iconic former president of South Africa has lead by example for decades and every year on the great man’s birthday, residents and visitors are encouraged to give 67 minutes of their time to volunteering for a good cause.
You too can spread the charitable love right here in the Mother City, a pioneer for Responsible Tourism. From soup kitchens to blanket drives and park runs to mass painting sessions, there are a multitude of events to help you to get in touch with your inner good Samaritan this Mandela Day.
All that you have to do is drop your blankets off at a Cape Town Tourism Visitor Centre near you and get a free ticket to Cape Point’s exhilarating Flying Dutchman funicular for every blanket handed in.
Get your co-workers involved and it could make for an exciting team outing!

The Dog Box Project aims to complete 67 kennels in 67 minutes using 67 teams! The Angels are supporting this event as an extension of their latest charitable give-a-dog-a-home-drive, the K9K Project.
Braveheartz Motorcycle Club’s Charity Ride
Rev those engines and giving hearts with Braveheartz Motorcycle Club’s charity ride. This Saturday these caring bikers are donating food parcels, stationery and clothes to three charities they's adopted this year. One of the charities is Masithandane Orphanage based in Nyanga.
The event is open to the public.
