Langa dancers – Flickr pic of the day

This rhythmic picture was composed by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Keith Lyle aka Stanleyace.

Keith says, “This is a composite of two photos taken during a tour of the townships of Langa and Nyanga. I have tried to convey the incredible experience of rhythm and colour of our African culture.

“The mural is outside the community centre in Langa and there we were treated to a gumboot dance by a troupe of youngsters who call themselves “Happy Feet”. It brought home to me the talent we Africans have been gifted with that desperately needs nurturing and developing.

“The dancers were part of a marimba group in Nyanga and after their performance we were all hauled onto the stage (photographers included. I thought I could hide behind my camera!) and given a quick lesson in marimba music and then made to put on our own ‘show’. It was a truly uplifting experience to actually become part of an African ensemble, although some of us need to spend more time with a metronome.”

Do you have images of Cape Town you’d like to share with us? We’d love you to join the Cape Town. Live it. Love it. Flickr group!
