Koegel Bay– Flickr pic of the day
Stephen says, “I shot this on a sunny Sunday afternoon from the secluded surfers’ beach at Kogelbay, just outside Gordon’s Bay. This little cove features some amazing cave systems and all-natural drinking water is supplied from the mountains above.
“On the left of the mountain you can see where a fire destroyed some vegetation. Surprisingly, though, fire is an integral part of the indigenous fynbos ecosystem in this area.
“Kogel Bay is about an hour’s drive from Cape Town central and is open to the public for overnight camping (with a permit). There are many nature treasures to be found in this area, including a hiking trail that leads to a series of pools and waterfalls named Crystal Pools by the locals.
“This is just one of the things that is so great about Cape Town and its surrounds: you can get into your car, drive to the nearest coastline and be amazed by scenes like this one. It’s no wonder Cape Town is rated as one of the top tourist destinations on the planet!”
