Kalk Bay pier – Flickr pic of the day

This picture of a seagull at Kalk Bay was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Murray Hunter.

Murray says, “This is a mighty romantic spot on the pier in Kalk Bay, just beneath the lighthouse, where you can eat a brownie under the watchful eyes of the gulls.

“The brownies can be purchased at Olympia Bakery, where, one presumes, the gods go for their baked goods.

“To reach the pier you need to walk a gauntlet of fishguts at the market, but that makes it all the more romantic once you get there,” he adds.

Essentially a fishing village, Kalk Bay is still a lively working harbour and one of the best places to buy fresh fish straight off the boat.

Kalk Bay is a fun place to hang out and makes for a great day trip from Cape Town. It’s also known for its excellent restaurants.
