Those attending the 2011 J&B Met at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town on January 29 can start preparing their outfits based on the theme: Larger Than Life. Extroverts and exhibitionists in the Mother City now really have reason to go over the top. For 2011, bigger is certainly better.
Tall hats, large accessories, stilts and puffy dresses are just a few fashion ideas that have been bandied about so far.
Larger Than Life was also a catchy 1998 hit by the Backstreet Boys, which is sure to be picked up by a few designers.
Cape Town is home to some of the world’s most creative fashion designers, meaning finding someone to tailor an outfit for you should be no problem at all. Even if you’re on a budget, there are numerous design schools in the Mother City, with ample students looking to make an impression for a nominal fee.
Pick up a Cape Town Design Route map at any of the city’s visitor information centres to track down some of Cape Town’s best design institutes.
An assortment of boutique fashion stores can also be found on Long Street, and are well worth a visit for anyone looking for custom-made garments.
Last year’s theme, In Full Colour, attracted many celebrities in full fashion.
The J&B Met usually attracts around 50 000 people, with 2011 expected to be no different.
