Jazz in Observatory – Flickr pic of the day

Jazz musician

This photograph of Zim Ngqawana was taken at Tagore’s in Observatory, Cape Town by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member capetownnatural.

Says capetownnatural, “On the afternoon of April 27, 2011, a friend of mine and I were at another gig. He is from East London and during the course of the afternoon, I mentioned to him that Zim Ngqawana was going to perform at another gig later in the day. He got so excited and said that we have to go see Zim. As the day progressed, he constantly reminded me that we have to leave on time for Zim’s performance.

“We arrived at Tagore’s in Observartory a few minutes before the gig started and still had time to have a chat with Zim. He was actually the guest artist and was going to perform with Mark Fransman, Brydon Bolton, Darren English and Jonno Sweetman.

“We asked Zim if it will be in order for us to take some photographs, he said it would be okay, but commented he that he would probably never see the pictures.

“Zim’s performance with the Cape Town cats was one of those amazing gigs that will stay in our minds forever. The musicians delivered two memorable sets of some of the best improvised jazz.

“Sadly Zim passed away on May 10, 2011 from stroke complications. He will be dearly missed… Rest in peace, Zim Ngqawana.”
