IPL continues the search for Bollywood star quality
A Johannesburg student and a Port Elizabeth model have joined the competition for the Miss Bollywood SA title – along with other young women who have stood out from the crowd at IPL matches.
The striking Gabriella Demetriades from Port Elizabeth will represent the Deccan Chargers after being picked from the crowd of spectators watching the Deccan Chargers take on the Rajasthan Royals.
Gabriella has travelled internationally, including India, and is fascinated by the country. “There are extremes of wealth and poverty,” she says, “but the country is diverse and the people are friendly, kind and welcoming – and there’s great shopping!”
The 22-year-old is impressed with South Africa’s handling of the 2009 season of the DLF IPL, considering the tournament was moved here at short notice.
Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood bigshot and co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, is one person Gabriella would love to meet. She loves to cook and says, “I want to him to teach me how to make a really great lamb korma.”
Debbie Schwartz was selected at the Wanderers Stadium when the Delhi Daredevils played against the Chennai Super Kings.
The cheerful student is a recent AB de Villiers fan. “I’ve only recently taken to watching cricket. The atmosphere at the stadium is amazing,” she says.
Debbie will represent the Delhi Daredevils as her “home” team as she was chosen when they were designated the “home” team at that game.
Later, you can vote by SMS for your choice of the 48 Miss Bollywood SA entrants to go further in the competition.
A business-class trip to India is up for grabs along with a role in a Bollywood movie and R50 000 in prize money for the winner of Miss Bollywood SA.
Photographs of the entrants can be found on www.iplt20.com.
