#InstagramDiary: GUILD Design Fair in Cape Town, World Design Capital 2014

The GUILD Design Fair was held at the The Lookout, in Cape Town, our World Design Capital with amazing views of the V&A Waterfront and Table Bay.

Cape Town, our creative World Design Capital 2014, is bursting at the seams with a variety of artistic events this Autumn, and none more inspirational that the GUILD Design Fair, which was held at the V&A Waterfront ‘s Lookout venue from 28 February to 9 March, 2014.

In my time as the content coordinator for Cape Town Tourism, I have attended many, many design-related events but few have really embodied and explained the concept to the layman as well as GUILD does.

It is here where you can truly grasp how an idea for a corset can be printed in 3D by the Agents of the 3D Revolution into something tangible for you to touch; how a think tank like the Maker Library between local and international artists ensures an interactive exchange of concepts for the benefit of the community or just how much brain power and creativity goes into designing puppets for a theatrical show like the Olivier Award for Design Tony Award winning production, War Horse.

GUILD was a true feast for the eyes, soul and mind and one I hope to experience again soon.

These are images of my favourite exhibits at the GUILD Design Fair:

These magnificent #WarHorse puppets by local group, the Hand Spring Puppet Company, are made of bamboo sticks

The Maker Library is a reading, making and showing space for international and local creatives.

Woven skull prints were just some of the amazing artistic items to see at the GUILD Design Fair.

The GUILD Design Fair is just one of the many stimulating World Design Capital 2014 events being hosted in and around Cape Town.  Click here for the full programme.
