I Love Cape Town surpasses 250 000 Facebook fans
With a passion for travel, tourism and social media, Cape Town is the quintessential backdrop for Media Developer Leon Jamarie and his cape adventures.
With the City as his canvass Leon paints the town red covering a range of events and activities in the peninsular while staying true to the traditional culture the mother city offers it’s children,
Originally from Durban, Leon is still an accidental tourist in the city he now calls home and as such is on the line between resident and local tourist able to provide inside knowledge and flavour to the average mundane travel blog.
He is always on the look out for that hidden gem or typical CT party. If it’s fun, relevant, he will cover it.
I ♥ Cape Town, Cape Town Tourism’s Facebook fan page and the leading travel and leisure Facebook page in Africa, has surpassed 250 000 fans.
According to social media and digital analytics company Social Bakers, I ♥ Cape Town ranks high among South African brands with growth of just more than 2 000 fans per month.
Cape Town residents and visitors share their photos, experiences and opinions on the page, while visitors to the Mother City can get advice about where to go and what to do – such as where to find a good ice-cream parlour; the best sushi in Cape Town; how to get a spare ticket to a concert; or local deals on accommodation.
The group has also become a home away from home for thousands of Capetonians who live and work abroad. They connect with their families through a shared love of Cape Town, while telling new friends about what a great city it is.
Fans also share photographs of Cape Town – from day-to-day observations, sunrises and sunsets to holiday snaps – as well as videos of their experiences.
Cape Town Tourism continues to strengthen its brand through the use of social media networks and offers fans competitive deals, having recently partnered with collective-buying site UbuntuDeal.
Says Cape Town Tourism PR and communications manager Skye Grove: "The online world has significantly changed the way that we interact with information and make buying decisions. We are proud of our reputation as one of the most connected destination marketing organisations in the world. We recognise the power of the web and social media in particular to communicate in a relevant, personalised and instant way with a diverse audience.
"Cape Town Tourism is committed to being a leading voice in e-marketing and social media for our tourism industry, and we will continue to play a proactive role in this regard."
