How to Eat and Drink Your Way through the Good Food&Wine Show 2014 in Cape Town
Fazielah Williams has lived in and loved her Mother City since birth. Having lived all over the Peninsula during her childhood, she now calls the picturesque City Bowl home and likes nothing more than watching the sun set over Table Bay from the window of her apartment.
A lover of the arts and proud Cape Town fanatic, Fazielah began her writing career by spending many hours as a child conjuring fantastical stories that featured independent heroines from faraway lands who saved the Prince instead. This Capetonian princess has enjoyed stints as a magical arts PRO and TV publicist before finding her calling as a travel writer.
When not waxing lyrical about the Fairest Cape’s most loved attractions and activities and embarking on unexpected adventures, Fazielah can usually be found taking in a show at one of the City’s fabulous theatres.
Who loves gourmet events in Cape Town? I do, it’s true, and I just CANNOT wait for the Good Food&Wine Show 2014 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from Thursday 29 May to Sunday 1 June, 2014.
It’s like the Food Channel in 3D: every conceivable thing to eat and guzzle is on display, being whipped up in a jiffy by celebrity culinary masters, shown off at must-see and eats theatre demos and handed to you in bite-sized portions from bustling food stalls.
I know you all are as nuts about this uber delicious annual event as I am so here’s how to eat and drink your way through the Good Food&Drink Show 2014:
- Go hungry (and very, VERY thirsty): Between the pop up Food Trucks, the yummy Coffee, Baking and Theatres and the dozens of wine stalls, you are going to be well fed and liquored up so don’t spoil your appetite with a quick Burger King run before the Show.
- Rands are your foodie friends: Trust me when I say this, there are going to be plenty of baked goods, vintage wines, must-have gadgets and all kinds of things you can’t just say no to so be sure to take cash along, or pop by the CTICC’s onsite ATMS before heading into the expo.
- Be a foodie groupie: Got a penchant for good-looking people who know how to cook? Me too, which is why I will be throwing my apron at the delectable, multi-awarding-winning Italian chef Chef Carlo Cracco, Master Chef South Africa’s Deena Naidoo and more. Remember to daily programme for demonstration updates.
- Channel your inner creative taster: You know that the chefs and winemakers are artisans, but did you know that the Show is a recognised World Design Capital 2014 event? With a focus on new sensations, foraging, sustainability and world food design trends, this year’s event is all about food, beverage, design and lifestyle, “reimagined.”
