Hout Bay’s friendly seal – Flickr pic of the day
Marc says, “Down at the Hout Bay fishing harbour, around the back, where the fishermen land their catch on a Sunday morning, a great commotion was going on.
“It wasn’t the usual fleet of small fishing boats that sell their catch from the back of their vessels to whoever wants to buy it. It wasn’t the flock of Chinese tourists who seemed quite overwhelmed by the smell and on-board gutting.
“André would make a fuss of the sea lion, groom him, scratch him and feed him fish scraps. In return the sea lion would put on a show.
“Of course the basket of coins was present – children were invited to come forward and touch the sea lion and to feel his oily mane, and for the experience they were encouraged to drop a few coins in the basket. Ever enterprising, ever South Africa,” adds Marc.
