The Amazing Helderberg Wine Race, held on the last Saturday of each month in the spectacular Helderberg wine region, has been hugely popular with tourists and Capetonians who want to add a bit of adventure to a lazy winelands tour.

The race is run along the lines of the popular TV show, with teams consisting of four people in a car. Teams each receive a goodie bag with various clues, information to solve the clues and a map, which they follow for a series of wine-themed tasks at wineries on the Helderberg Wine Route.

Feedback from Amazing Helderberg Wine Race participants has been enthusiastic and positive.

Monja Lingenfelder says, “The farms were awesome, very accommodating and friendly and went to a lot of trouble to help and to make us feel welcome.”

Lingenfelder says she enjoyed the fact that only the tasks were timed, so participants did not have to race from one wine farm to the next. “It was nice to have time to spend at the farms and actually experience the wine,” she adds. “The fact that the whole day only cost R50 was phenomenal!”

For Kim du Toit, highlights included getting to know a new wine estate and, of course, the great wine and fabulous food.

“Thanks so much for such a fantastic afternoon,” she enthuses. “I really enjoyed it and, of course, loved winning all the delicious wines! I will certainly be bringing friends to come and enjoy another day out.”
