Harbour House launches new winter menu special
Natalie Roos’ body was born in Johannesburg… but her soul was always Capetonian. At the age of 14, Natalie started work in the television industry, presenting popular local kids TV show, KTV. Ten years and another TV job later (presenting celebrity gossip show JIP on Afrikaans music channel MK), Natalie made the move down to Cape Town where she started her blog, Tails of a Mermaid (www.tailsofamermaid.com). Her love for the internet and all things communication-driven became a natural progression to a career in Social Media, where she worked in an agency managing the online presence, content and reputation of various brands.
Natalie’s passions include cats, communication and Cape Town.
Winter is the perfect time to indulge in lots of good food and fantastic wine ... after all, no one is going to see what's under those bulky clothes for a good few months! What better way to make the most of the "eating season", as I have affectionately dubbed it, than with one of Cape Town's many winter specials?
I was invited to experience Harbour House V&A's new winter menu and let me tell you, it's a treat! For just R150 for two courses or R170 for three, I might have to go back once a month, which just happens to be how often they change the menu.
I had the house salad starter, followed by crayfish thermidor and finished off with a flourless chocolate cake. My friend Emma went for the braised oxtail ravioli for her starter, the fresh linefish for the main course and, being a girl close to my own heart, the flourless chocolate cake for dessert as well.
The full menu for the month of June is as follows:
Rocket, crispy bacon, bella-rosa tomatoes, avo and parmesan salad. Tossed in a whole grain mustard vinaigrette. Served with garlic-rubbed croutons, green peas, basil mayo & a soft poached egg.
PRAWN AND CALAMARI RAGOUT
Black tiger prawns and baby calamari tubes, pan-fried in extra virgin olive oil, garlic, chilli, basil and tomato pulp. Served on puff pastry with a herb butter sauce.
BRAISED OXTAIL RAVIOLI
Served with poached bone marrow, baby carrots and button mushrooms on a red wine and parsley sauce.
GRILLED CAPE CRAYFISH THERMIDOR
Served with pomme frites and a mixed herb salad.
Fresh line fish with crispy bacon and colcannon crushed potatoes. Served on a mussel velouté.
SPRINGBOK SADDLE STRAP
Springbok medallions on an orange and honey jus, with a layered tian of roasted butternut, creamed spinach and celeriac mash, white onion puree and deep-fried leeks.
MILK TART PANNA COTTA
With cardamom crumble and brandied dates.
FLOURLESS DARK CHOCOLATE CAKE
Beetroot and rose geranium ice-cream.
If that menu doesn't whet your appetite, then I don't know what will! Book your table at Harbour House and make the most of this amazing special.
But that's not the only special in town ... Cape Town is famous for the great deals available over the winter months. Check out more delicious winter menu specials here.
