Grey squirrel in Company Gardens – Flickr pic of the day
The photographer says, “Working at the Mount Nelson back in the heady days of the 1970s meant a daily walk through the delightful, peaceful Company Gardens from Adderley Street station. The place oozes history – just the thought of it being used as a grand allotment to grow vegetables intrigues me. Now it houses several prominent buildings, including the South African Museum, South African Library and National Gallery and the Houses of Parliament and Tuynhuys.
“My favourite memory, however, was of the cheeky grey squirrels that came leaping out of the trees to ambush you and demand feeding.
“I had to go back on my recent visit to see if they were still there. They are – and here is proof of their cheekiness.”
