A grand night in at the Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel

The Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel

Cape Town Tourism successfully hosted its fifth annual general meeting at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on October 13. The event took place in splashes of colour, celebrating the Live it. Love it. LOUDER! campaign to show the Mother City is ready to welcome the world for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The proceedings went like clock-work – the three new members on the 13-member board were swiftly elected and others re-elected – and the evening ended off on a high note, with the sounds of fusion band Coda, excellent wines and delicious food.

An exhilarated AGM task team comprising project leader Fatima Borez, Thirumerni Naidoo, Inge Dykman, Marshay Hector, Chandre Engelbrecht and I headed to the Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel in the small hours of the morning for a big night in.

The Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel is located at the foot of iconic Table Mountain in the inner city, where the lights of restaurants and bars illuminate vibey Long Street.

We stayed in a two-bedroom self-catering apartment, very chicly decorated, with the same funky edge that this designer hotel is renowned for. The apartment was comfortable, with its own kitchenette leading onto a step-out balcony.

We loved the special touches, including a welcome with a basket of soaps, toiletries and mouth-watering chocolates. A tired but thoroughly happy bunch, we settled down to enjoy the chocolates and a nightcap of Amarula Cream, with the sounds of the city spilling in through the open balcony doors.

In the morning we had a cup of coffee while taking in views of the mountain and Cape Town from our armchairs.

Marshay summed it up best “We had an awesome time. Our stay reminded me of my teen days of girls’ evenings!”

A short stroll away, we had breakfast at Arnold’s on Kloof Street, vowing to come back for a second stay at the Daddy Long Legs, when we can fully explore the Cape Town nightlife.

Thank you very much to the Daddy Long Legs for hosting our team for a relaxing stay!
