The music world has been rocked (or is that jazzed?) by the winner of this year’s Grammy Award for Best New Artist: It’s the first time in the history of the awards that a jazz musician took home this coveted title. Bassist, singer and composer Esperanza Spalding’s phenomenal win – she beat the likes of Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence + the Machine and Mumford & Sons – on February 13, 2011 signifies her timeless appeal across broad audiences.
One audience that can look forward to her appeal is the one at this year’s Cape Town International Jazz Festival: Spalding’s performance here in 2011 has been confirmed.
“We are thrilled that Spalding has agreed to perform at this year’s jazz festival and we are proud to present her as part of the star-studded line-up. I trust that you will enjoy her talent,” says Cape Town International Jazz Festival Director Rashid Lombard.
The 12th Cape Town International Jazz Festival is happening on March 25 and 26, 2011 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
