“Glitz and Glam” at the 2009 J&B Met – A Cape Town Tourism Flickr photo essay
The 32nd J&B Met – South Africa’s most prestigious horse racing event – took place on January 31, 2009 at Kenilworth Racecourse. With the “Glitz and Glam” theme, Cape Town’s beautiful people outshone the horses in an array of sparkling, flamboyant outfits. Freelance photographer Francois Willemburg captured all the glamour of the event.
Those lucky enough to make the J&B Met guest list mingled with South Africa’s society people, sipping cocktails while cheering on the winning horses.
The “Glitz and Glam” theme was inspired by the mirror ball used in J&B’s Start a Party Campaign, launched worldwide this year.
According to Cape Town Magazine, those J&B Met glitterati selected as finalists in the best-dressed competition won fabulous prizes – including a week’s holiday in Mauritius. As you can see from these pictures, competition was fierce!
With so many unique interpretations of the “Glitz and Glam” theme, the 32nd J&B Met will long be remembered by Capetonians. The stage is set for next year, as it’s difficult to see how such finery and glamour could be topped!
