Give our vuvuzela a fair hearing at the 2010 World Cup

A display of beaded vuvuzelas at the Cape Town International Convention Centre during the 2009 Confederations Cup

Love it or hate it, the noisy vuvuzela is synonymous with football in South Africa.

For the uninitiated, the vuvuzela is a plastic horn usually blown by football fans at matches.

During the 2009 Confederations Cup recently, FIFA received complaints from some commentators and international players who want the horns banned during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

I personally feel that the vuvuzela is part and parcel of the South African football culture.

There’s no denying that they add a uniquely South African flavour to your football experience!

So my message to all football fans is: come on out here and hear our humble plastic horn, and judge for yourself whether it’s an instrument of torture or an African symbol of the beautiful game.
