Give a little love this winter with the Cape Point Blanket Drive
Natalie Roos’ body was born in Johannesburg… but her soul was always Capetonian. At the age of 14, Natalie started work in the television industry, presenting popular local kids TV show, KTV. Ten years and another TV job later (presenting celebrity gossip show JIP on Afrikaans music channel MK), Natalie made the move down to Cape Town where she started her blog, Tails of a Mermaid (www.tailsofamermaid.com). Her love for the internet and all things communication-driven became a natural progression to a career in Social Media, where she worked in an agency managing the online presence, content and reputation of various brands.
Natalie’s passions include cats, communication and Cape Town.
The Cape Point Partnership has teamed up with Cape Town Tourism in an appeal for Capetonians to open their hearts, and donate blankets to bring comfort and warmth to those less fortunate.
Blankets may be dropped off at any of Cape Town Tourism’s nine centres, namely Kirstenbosch, Simon's Town, Muizenberg, Langa, City Centre, Blaauwberg, Somerset West, Willowbridge and Cape Town International Airport.
These centres are ready to receive blankets immediately, until 16 July. The blankets will be distributed on Mandela Day, 18 July, as part of the Cape Point Partnerhip’s 67 minutes of community service in support of Mandela Day.
The communities that will benefit directly from this blanket drive are Masiphumelele, situated between Kommetjie and Noordhoek, and Red Hill, near Simon's Town.
So make this your good deed for winter and enjoy a complimentary ticket on the Flying Dutchman funicular at Cape Point for every blanket donated. The funicular is a fun way for visitors to Cape Point to travel to the old lighthouse, and enjoy spectacular panoramic views, without having to tackle the long uphill walk from the car park.
