Several thousand football and music fans in Cape Town braved the cold weather to see superstar Cape Town band, Goldfish, perform at the FIFA Fan Fest this evening, after Ghana beat Serbia 1-0 in their 2010 FIFA World Cup™ match in Pretoria.

Asamoah Gyan slotted a penalty late in the match to give Ghana the win, sending supporters at Cape Town’s FIFA Fan Fest into a frenzy. Neutral football fans in attendance (mainly South Africans, Germans, Australians, Koreans, Dutch and Brazilians) also showed their support for the one of the more promising African teams taking part in the tournament.

Goldfish, who are arguably one of the best live acts in the world right now, had the crowd jumping up and down as they performed their numerous hits. Dominic Peters and David Poole of Goldfish are both incredibly talented musicians and disc jockeys, who play several instruments on stage during performances, including the saxophone, keyboard, cello and flute. Poole can even play the flute and “beat-box” at the same time. Vocalist Hulani Hlangwane has one of the clearest voices you will ever hear and he sure knows how to dance.

Goldfish showed their support for Bafana Bafana by changing the lyrics to their very popular anthem, Soundtracks and Come Backs, getting the crowd to chant “Ba-ba-faa-na na na - na na na - na na na!”

Find out about upcoming Goldfish gigs on their website.

Situated between the Cape Town City Hall and the Castle of Good Hope, with a view of Table Mountain, the FIFA Fan Fest is one of the best places to watch 2010 FIFA World Cup™ matches and excellent live entertainment. Featuring Africa’s biggest screen (which is 74 square metres), the FIFA Fan Fest is a memorable experience.

On Monday, June 14, Italy play Paraguay at Cape Town Stadium. If you don’t have a ticket, get to the FIFA Fan Fest early to make the most of the entertainment on offer. Cape Town band, Coda, will be the main music entertainment for the evening. The FIFA Fan Fest area will be closed once capacity (around 20 000 people) is reached, so get there early to avoid disappointment. You can also see our entertainment section for information about where else to watch matches in Cape Town.
