Cape Town’s athletic set will take their mark on February 21, 2010 for the BDO Peninsula Marathon, to be held in Simon’s Town.

Marathon runners will follow the picturesque “new route” – described by organisers as “scenic yet challenging” – which takes runners over Red Hill and around Cape Point.

The 42.2km full marathon begins in Simon’s Town Main Road, while the 21.1km half-marathon starts outside the station in the coastal town. Both races finish at the Naval Sports Grounds.

This is the second year that runners will follow the “new route”. The race was moved from Green Point in 2009 to avoid the Cape Town Stadium construction site.

The race is an official qualifier for the Two Oceans Marathon and always attracts a large number of eager participants.

In light of this, organisers advise that runners arrive at the event early to secure parking.

Participants can enter online (www.topevents.co.za), at sports stores in Cape Town or at various road races before the event. Entries must be submitted by February 14, 2010 as no late entries will be taken.
