Get ready for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon: The world’s most beautiful marathon

Calling all runners! Dates for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon have been finalised and the race has been dubbed “the most beautiful race in the world”. The 2013 marathon comprised 73 nations collectively of which 53 000 runners participated. We’re hoping to beat that number in 2014 and entries have just opened, so come on Cape Town – what are you waiting for?

The theme for the 2014 race is: Designed to Run – which speaks to and is strongly linked to Cape Town being the World Design Capital 2014, as noted by the Chairman of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon at the Media Launch.

We also had the privilege of meeting the Marketing Manager of OMTOM who took us through the campaign for the 2014 race with such passion. She pointed out that even though entries opened 3 days ago, already 500 people have registered.

The marathon is noted as one of the top five in the world, with a R1 million bonus prize awarded to the person who breaks the record for the ultra-marathon. We’re hoping that the elevated prize money, and of course, the scenic route through Cape Town is what will capture the attention of athletes across the globe. In addition to the bonus prize, the Put Foot Foundation as well as Save The Rhino are two charity organisations that are involved in the marathon. So, if you still needed a good reason to enter, there it is. The Put Foot Foundation has helped children in rural areas who cannot afford a pair of shoes and have thus far donated more than 500 000 pairs of shoes to these kids. Save The Rhino is an organisation whose sole focus is to protect the last remaining species of rhinos in Africa and Asia.

The sponsors are hosting interactive competitions with amazing prizes to be won; to see how you can be part of this inspiring event follow them on Twitter:

Adidas are encouraging runners to share photos of their journey where the winner of the grand prize will receive a ticket to the Berlin Marathon in 2014.
