Genée International Ballet competitors visit Table Mountain
Fazielah Williams has lived in and loved her Mother City since birth. Having lived all over the Peninsula during her childhood, she now calls the picturesque City Bowl home and likes nothing more than watching the sun set over Table Bay from the window of her apartment.
A lover of the arts and proud Cape Town fanatic, Fazielah began her writing career by spending many hours as a child conjuring fantastical stories that featured independent heroines from faraway lands who saved the Prince instead. This Capetonian princess has enjoyed stints as a magical arts PRO and TV publicist before finding her calling as a travel writer.
When not waxing lyrical about the Fairest Cape’s most loved attractions and activities and embarking on unexpected adventures, Fazielah can usually be found taking in a show at one of the City’s fabulous theatres.
Fantastic weather, graceful poses and a nominee for the New7Wonders of Nature ... this stellar combination made for a spectacular photo opportunity for the Genée International Ballet competitors during their visit to Table Mountain on Saturday October 8.
Visitors and locals alike were delighted at the sights of the pretty ballerinas posing on top of the Mother City’s majestic attraction.
With elegant dancers from all over the world, including South Africa, the United States, Canada, Wales, Scotland, Israel, Malaysia, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Cyprus and Spain, the battle for top honours at the Genée International Ballet Competition 2011 – a prestigious contest hosted by the Royal Academy of Dance at the Artscape Theatre – was tough.
At the finale on Sunday October 9, South Africa’s dancers did their country proud by winning two Bronze Awards. Congratulations to the Western Cape's Mlindi Kulashe (19), originally from Nyanga, and Ashley Scott (17) from Hermanus – both currently training at the English National Ballet School in London – for winning medals in the male and female categories.
