Football fever hits Strand Beach
Strand Beach, situated at the foot of the Hottentots Holland mountain range on the False Bay Coast, recently played host to a beach soccer tournament, held as part of Cape Town Tourism’s Strand Jetty Office Tourism Activation Month activities.
Twenty very enthusiastic learners from Hendrik Louw Primary School turned out to display their soccer talent on Monday, September 21, and young and old gathered to watch the scholars battle it out on the beautiful, sandy beach.
With the breathtaking view of Table Mountain and summery weather, we couldn’t have asked for a better day for the event.
One thing was clear: FIFA couldn’t have chosen a better setting than Cape Town as a host city for the 2010 FIFA World Cup – and our two teams (made up of both boys and girls) added to the excitement surrounding the international sporting event.
At the end of the match, we tested the learners’ general knowledge of Cape Town, as well as of local and international soccer.
One learner asked that Cape Town Tourism tell Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana to buy Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo so that the star winger can play for South Africa – and stay in Strand!
