View from Chapman’s Peak – Flickr pic of the day
Alex says: “I took this particular shot on a lovely day from the summit of Chapman’s Peak. It was taken in October 2007 when my regular hiking partner, Judith Phillips, had a friend visiting from Johannesburg and wanted to show her some of our wonderful Cape Town scenery.
We left a car parked at the dam in Silvermine Nature Reserve and then drove in another car to the Noordhoek beach parking area, which can be seen near the bottom left of the picture. We hiked up Chapman’s Peak from there and then down towards Hout Bay, up Blackburn Ravine and into Silvermine, back to the car.
It was a wonderful hike, if somewhat strenuous, taking about seven hours, and I would really recommend this to anyone who is reasonably fit. One just has to be careful with the weather as Chapman’s Peak can turn into a fearsome place to be when the north-west wind is blowing.
I lugged my Canon 400D with a Sigma 18-200 OS lens up with me. A bit of a heavy combination to take on a hike but, as you can see, it was worth it.”
Do you have images of Cape Town you’d like to share with us? We’d love you to join the Cape Town. Live it. Love it. Flickr group!
