Fazielah’s top three free weekend events

Don't miss the opening weekend of the free Summer Concerts at the V&A Waterfront! Photo courtesy V&A Waterfront

Just because it’s pay day weekend, doesn’t mean you have cash to flaunt, right?

No need to worry, I’ve got you covered, guys. From live music to spectacular parades and free food tastings, you can have a fabulous weekend in the Mother City for mahala (free):

V&A Summer Concerts 2012/2013

My most treasured summer memories are those spent loving the free live bands performing at the V&A Waterfront’s gorgeous Amphitheatre.

This weekend, South African songstresses Vicky Sampson and Melanie Scholtz, accompanied by the Love Apples will entertain you. Take the little ones along and let them loose on the new playground.

City’s Festive Lights switch-on

Get turned on for the holiday season with the popular switch-on of the Festive Lights this Sunday.

Jive to the awesome sounds of local artists at the Grand Parade from 15h00, gasp in delight at the 12 illuminating installations along Adderley Street at 20h00 and then admire the creative floats and performers (inclduing Emo Adams and Freshlyground) participating in the Festival Carnival of Lights.

Bay Harbour the Market

Browsing through the stalls at this seaside market in Hout Bay is free as is enjoying the musical talents of top entertainers.

While you’re there, do try the scrumptious seafood paella!
