Facebook Feedback Friday: your best live music venues in Cape Town
Every Thursday afternoon we pose a question to our Facebook followers at I ♥ Cape Town. We want to know what you love about Cape Town, and we'll take some of the best responses and post them collectively on our blog.
Yesterday we asked you: "Where is the best live music venue in Cape Town?"
Here's what some of you had to say ...
The Mahogany Room in Buitenkant Street was mentioned by Elize Delia Engle and several others – Colin Greenwood from Radiohead even popped by there this week.
Patrick Dudgeon broke it down for us ... "Depends: Rock – Mercury Live. Metal – ROAR. Jazz – Mahogany Room. Outdoor – Kirstenbosch. Indie and electronic – The Assembly. And if you're in the Northern Suburbs, Klein Libertas is a lot of fun, good sound inside and outside."
In fact, Kirstenbosch was mentioned 14 times in the comments, with The Assembly a close runner-up with 11 recommendations.
The third most popular venue in the Facebook comments was Mercury Live, which cracked eight nods.
Here's some others:
Cliff Viljoen: "I quite enjoy the Tuesdays & Wednesdays at &Union"
For venues outside of the city, our very own Skye Grove suggested the Paul Cluver Amphitheatre (where Suzanne Vega will be performing in March)
Ruan de Klerk recommended "Aandklas in Stellenbosch, any type of music, any day, any night, and cheapest drinks ever ..."
Learnmore Sango likes "Noordhoek at Cafe Roux, Sunday"
Darren Byrne suggested Monkey Valley.
Finally, Danizelle October summed up our thoughts precisely: "With so many venues let's just agree to say that Cape Town is the best venue for live music! After all we host the largest Jazz fest in Africa! I love this city!"
