Eddie Izzard in Cape Town: Running for Mandela
British actor and comic, Eddie Izzard, is currently in South Africa, running 27 marathons in 27 days in honour of former South African president Nelson Mandela. Last night he Tweeted a photo of Table Mountain, taken from Signall Hill.
According to his website, Izzard is raising funds to help disadvantaged people in South Africa. On May 15, Izzard began his quest to run 27 marathons – one for each year that Mandela spent in prison while fighting for freedom. Mandela spent 18 of those years on Robben Island, where Izzard is due to run one of his marathons. Robben Island is open for tours throughout the year and the this includes a scenic ferry ride as well as a look inside Mandela's cell.
Izzard said on his website, "As the marathons are run, we will be filming a documentary about Nelson Mandela's life and I will be talking to people who know him and who struggled with him over those 27 years. This documentary will be broadcast on Sky TV in the UK and is being sold to countries all around the world."
