The 2011 Design Indaba Party – the first to be opened to you, the public – was held at Trinity nightclub in Green Point last night. Hundreds of creative thinkers and partygoers from various parts of the globe converged on the venue following on from the hugely successful Design Indaba Conference, and on the cusp of the Design Indaba Expo, all at Cape Town International Convention Centre this week.

This was a great opportunity for designers of all disciplines to exchange opinions and ideas in a relaxed forum, while Cape Town creatives took advantage of the opportunity to brag about how fortunate they are to work, learn and live in such a city. Cape Town is bidding to become the World Design Capital in 2014 and events like Design Indaba showcase the top talent the city hosts and boasts.

A variety of performers took the stage to entertain the enthusiastic crowd, but the highlight was definitely an energetic Spoek Mathambo. Given his big glasses and shaved sides haircut, comparisons to the comedic fictional character Steve Urkel from Family Matters were made by several guests who bopped and swayed to his upbeat hits such as Mshini Wam.

Trinity is a world-class, multi-level entertainment venue that regularly hosts top international DJs and performers. Visit their website for more information.
