Dawn – Flickr pic of the day
Paul says, “I was very fortunate to have taken this photo. A University of Cape Town friend invited me to stay over on Robben Island for a night. She was studying the effects of the human population on the penguin population. This involved sitting from 2am to 4am with night-vision binoculars counting penguins as they crossed the ring-road around Robben Island. After the 4am shift we cycled back to our digs and I walked down to the shore to get some dawn photos. Seeing Table Mountain from such a vantage point was quite amazing.”
“I assume the old building in the shot is a pillbox [a bunker] of some sort,” Paul continues.
“What the photo reminded me about living in Cape Town was how we have such natural beauty, but also such a rich history. There I was on a famous prison island looking out over one of the most stunning sights in the world.”
