Tourists the world over are increasingly looking for meaningful experiences that include the involvement of local communities and helping to create sustainable living environments. What are tourism businesses in Cape Town and South Africa doing about this? I think we will get our answer when we see all the nominations and the winner for the Provincial Tourism Awards 2008 in the category of empowering the local communities through skills development and business opportunities in 2008.
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism in partnership with Cape Town Routes Unlimited are hosting the awards. The awards are aimed at recognising the individuals, businesses and organisations that have done well in enhancing growth in tourism as well as empowering the local communities through skills development and business opportunities in 2008.
The winners of the awards in various categories will be announced on Wednesday, 25 February 2009 by MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Mr Garth Strachan.
