Close finish in IPL match at Wanderers

The Kings XI Punjab claimed a gripping one-run victory against the Deccan Chargers at the Wanderers on Sunday after Irfan Pathan bowled a hat-trick and a first-rate last over.

“It was a very close game but I am happy to get a win in the end. Everyone hung in there, and Kumar batted really well to get us to a decent total,” said Yuvraj Singh, who was full of praise for teammates Sangakkara with the bat and Irfan, who bowled the last over.

Players can almost taste the semi-final spot in the last round-robin match of the competition. But before then, on Thursday in Centurion, the Deccan Chargers play the Royal Challengers Bangalore, while the Kings XI Punjab’s next match is against the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday in Durban.

Fans can look forward to the Indian Premier League 2009 finals to come.
