Celebrating the 2010 World Cup Final Draw – Flickr Pic of the Day
This photograph of an exuberant 2010 fan blowing a vuvuzela at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final Draw party in Long Street, Cape Town on Friday was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Tara Turkington, aka Flowcomm.
Tara says the party was the best she’s ever been to.
“It was really incredible to see so many people at the FIFA World Cup Final Draw party in Long Street on Friday night. Eventually, they closed the street and wouldn’t let anyone else in. I heard estimates of crowd numbers of anything from about 10 000 people to 80 0000. Everyone was having such a great time together, celebrating the 2010 World Cup coming to South Africa, and looking forward to welcoming the world to beautiful Cape Town. The weather was perfect, Table Mountain was the perfect backdrop, the vuvuzelas filled the air, and I don’t think the day and night’s events could have been a better advert to the world that we’re ready to host the World Cup in fabulous African style!
“This lady, blowing her vuvuzela and waving her South African flag all at the same time, epitomises for me the pride we as South Africans feel to welcome the 2010 World Cup to our country.”
