Celebrate World Ocean Day: learn more about sharks

It was a sad day on Kommetjie Beach in Cape Town, when 55 false killer whales beached themselves on May 30, 2009.

Incidents like this remind us how much we still need to learn about the oceans and the life they support. World Ocean Day – June 8, 2009 – is an opportunity to learn and to celebrate our marine heritage.

To be a part of this initiative, join the Save Our Seas Foundation for the screening of the documentary Shark Waters on June 6, 2009 from 11h00 to 12h00 at the Save Our Seas Shark Centre (SOSSC). A donation of R20 will be welcome.

A talk titled Hitching a Ride with a Great White Shark by marine biologist Alison Kock, and one titled The Ocean Speaks Out by SOSSC executive manager Lesley Rochat, will be held on June 8, 2009 from 06h30 to 08h30. A donation of R30 will be appreciated.

To book, please call Verona or Charmaine on 021 788 6694 or come to the Save Our Seas Shark Centre, 23 Main Road, Kalk Bay.

The centre is open Monday to Saturday 10h00-16h00.

Group and school visits are welcome.
