A host of dignitaries, local celebrities, performers, artists, the who’s who of Cape Town’s Italian community and members of the press braved a wet and chilly May evening to celebrate the re-opening of the Casa Labia Centre in Muizenberg.
My colleague, Fuad Peters, and I were delighted to attend on behalf of Cape Town Tourism and were struck by the magnificence of the Venetian-style architecture and the plush and dramatic furnishings that grace the Centre. Casa Labia has been painstakingly restored by the Labia family, Antonia Labia Hardres-Williams in particular, whose love and support of local art has resulted in the establishment of the Casa Labia Cultural Centre, consisting of the Galleria for art exhibitions and the Africa Nova studio for South African arts and crafts. The history of this magnificent building is fascinating and guided tours are available. Italian-inspired fare can also be enjoyed at the Casa Labia Café.
To celebrate all things football, Casa Labia invites patrons to relax and enjoy the matches i Mondiali whilst tucking into their once-off Menu degli Azzurri.
