Cape township women – Flickr pic of the day

This stark portrait was captured by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Heidi Augestad aka Kemela.

Heidi says, “Photographing in Cape Town can give the biggest amount of joy to anyone who appreciates open landscapes, dramatic coastline rocks and exceptional nature – not to mention the beauty of its people.

“I stayed in Cape Town for five weeks and conducted my fieldwork in one of the primary schools in Crossroads. I got to know wonderful people and had a small glimpse of the vast complexities of your country.”

Crossroads is well worth a visit to experience traditional Xhosa cooking with its flavoursome combinations of maize meal and vegetables like umqa (pumpkin and maize meal) and umngqusho nenyama (samp and beans with stew).

Do you have images of Cape Town you’d like to share with us? We’d love you to join the Cape Town. Live it. Love it. Flickr group!
