Cape Town work ethic – Flickr pic of the day

This Capetonian was captured by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Tara Turkington, aka flowcomm.

Tara says, “You’ve got to hand it to Capetonians, who are the most balanced people I know. Capetonians are passionate about their city, and they tend to make the most of it – whether it’s taking a stroll after work along the promenade in Sea Point, or soaking up the sun on the lawns of Kirstenbosch Gardens.”

Maybe it’s this determination to enjoy where they live (and thus attend meetings before 9am and after 4pm only very begrudgingly) that’s earned them the reputation of not working too hard? Then again, maybe it’s just a stereotype that non-Capetonians such as myself (yes, an unbalanced Jo’burger) apply because they’re just jealous they don’t live in the Mother City?

“Whatever the case, I was walking through the Company Gardens in the city centre recently with my camera (ahem, just doing what Capetonians do so well of course), when I saw this City of Cape Town gardener lying – yes lying – on a park bench, nonchalantly watering the flowers. I asked him if I could take a photo, whereupon he languidly sat up and posed. Now that’s the kind of balance I’d love in my job!”

Do you have images of Cape Town you’d like to share with us? We’d love you to join the Cape Town. Live it. Love it. Flickr group!
