Cape Town Tourism goes on one Big Walk through the city
Walkers enjoying the backdrop of Table Mountain
The Mother City gave us a glorious summer day on Sunday, November 14, for the annual Big Walk, sponsored this year by Discovery and the Cape Times. With temperatures in the mid-twenties, clear blue skies and a gentle summer breeze, conditions were favourable for all those participating and supporting this large-scale community event.
Over 12 000 entrants set off from the Grand Parade on the 10km option. Among them were Cape Town Tourism team members Lois Johnson and Zita Clarence, dressed in their colourful My Cape Town t-shirts. They said that “walking through the Company’s Garden and enjoying the views of the spectacular backdrop of Table Mountain” were definite highlights along the route.
They also committed to being back next year, taking up the challenge of an even longer route.
Well done to adventurous team members Lee-Ann van Neil and Anthony Bere who successfully completed the 20km and 30km routes respectively. Click here for a full list of results.
Cape Town Tourism’s Fatima Borez said that the well-organised event, with its focus on family and fun, provided the perfect teambuilding opportunity. Staff, industry and community members (those who won entry in a competition held during a 567 CapeTalk radio slot) enjoyed well-deserved refreshments together at the finish line.
