The opening of Parliament will be held in Cape Town on Thursday, February 10, 2011, as part of which President Jacob Zuma will deliver his State of the Nation Address at 19h00, to be broadcast live on SABC 2 and e.tv.
Road closures will come into effect from Tuesday, February 8, to accommodate rehearsals for the event, and the City of Cape Town has apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused as a result.
According to the City of Cape Town, the following roads will be closed at various times from Tuesday, February 8, until Friday, February 11:
Hertzog Blvd inbound: Oswald Pirow St to Heerengracht St
Eastern Blvd inbound: Strand St offramp
Strand St inbound: from Russel St to Plein St
Adderley St: between Hans Strijdom Ave and Wale St
Heerengracht St: Coen Steytler Ave to Hans Strijdom Ave
Wale St: between Queen Victoria St and Adderley St
Bureau St: between Adderley St and Parliament St
Spin St: between Corporation St and Parliament St
Commercial St: between Plein St and Buitenkant St
Roeland St: between Plein St and Buitenkant St
Plein St: between Roeland St and Barrack St
St John’s Rd: between Plein St and Vrede St
