Cape Town has its own cocktail
Cape Town Tourism’s CEO Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold with winner Marlon Berry
Cape Town does it again! This time with its very own cocktail prepared by Karibu barman, Marlon Berry.
I was fortunate enough to attend the announcement of the Taste of the Cape Town Sunset Cocktail competition winner yesterday afternoon. This intimate event took place at The Grand Daddy Hotel, in the Daddy Cool bar in Long Street.
On arrival each guest received an Amarula welcome drink which set the mood for the announcement that followed. Cape Town Tourism’s CEO Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold welcomed the guests while the finalists anxiously waited for the verdict.
It was a close call between the finalists but there can only be one winner. Cantina Tequila, Zewenvacht Restaurant, Tuscany Beach and Chapmans Peak Hotel each received consolation prizes for their great efforts and congratulated Marlon Berry from Karibu Restaurant who won an all expenses paid trip for himself and a representative who was part of his team, to the World Cocktail Championships in Berlin, Germany, to be held in August 2009.
After Mariëtte made the announcement, Marlon got behind the bar to prepare the Cape Town Karibu Kiss cocktail for guests to taste. It was a definite winner and had guests queuing for more. Well done Marlon!

Ingredients and garnish: 35ml Amarula, 25ml Frangelico, 10ml Butlers Banana, 15ml fresh cream, two scoops ice cream. Garnish with chocolate elephant.
