Cape Town faces – Flickr pic of the day

This lovely photo of a child in Gugulethu township was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Mike Metelerkamp aka mikemet.

Mike says, “This photo was taken outside Mzoli’s Place in Gugulethu during a friend’s birthday party. It was such a fun day, which let us experience another unique part of Cape Town.

“I found this little guy hanging around outside the shebeen when I went to buy some drinks before hitting the dance floor again,” he continues.

The township is best visited as part of a guided tour, which will take in all its sights and sounds. Tours generally take visitors past the Gugulethu Seven Monument, a sculpture commemorating the death of seven young black activists from the township during the dark days of apartheid.

On a lighter note, no visit to Gugs would be complete without having a drink at one of the township’s many shebeens.

Do you have images of Cape Town you’d like to share with us? We’d love you to join the Cape Town. Live it. Love it. Flickr group!
