Cape Town curios – Flickr pic of the day

This colourful picture of painted wooden statues at one of the many informal markets in Cape Town was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Fucsia.

Fucsia says, “I went to Cape Town in November 2007 with my husband, visiting some friends who live there.

“The city is very interesting: modern and ancient, trendy and traditional at the same time. The atmosphere is relaxed and the people are friendly.

“What surprised me most was the near-perfect Mediterranean climate, the landscapes and the nature – so green and gentle.

“During a visit to a small market near the fishing harbour, I discovered many coloured wooden statues lying on the beach, and couldn’t resist taking this photo. This will always remind me of our trip to South Africa.”

Cape Town is renowned for its markets – and Greenmarket Square and Milnerton Flea Market are fun places to hunt down bargains.
