Cape sugarbird – Flickr pic of the day

This beautiful photograph of a Cape sugarbird in Kirstenbosch Gardens was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Ian Junor aka ifijay.

Ian says, “Kirstenbosch is beautiful at this time of the year. The spring flowers attract many visitors.

“Apart from the beauty of the gardens, spring also brings along a whole host of birds, which feed on the flowering proteas and other indigenous plants. Sugarbirds and sunbirds in particular can be found hopping from plant to plant in the spring sunshine,” he continues.

Kirstenbosch is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, which was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2004.
