Cape Town’s Camps Bay chosen as Baywatch Spin-off location
Fazielah Williams has lived in and loved her Mother City since birth. Having lived all over the Peninsula during her childhood, she now calls the picturesque City Bowl home and likes nothing more than watching the sun set over Table Bay from the window of her apartment.
A lover of the arts and proud Cape Town fanatic, Fazielah began her writing career by spending many hours as a child conjuring fantastical stories that featured independent heroines from faraway lands who saved the Prince instead. This Capetonian princess has enjoyed stints as a magical arts PRO and TV publicist before finding her calling as a travel writer.
When not waxing lyrical about the Fairest Cape’s most loved attractions and activities and embarking on unexpected adventures, Fazielah can usually be found taking in a show at one of the City’s fabulous theatres.
“Some people stand in the darkness/ Afraid to step into the light/ Some people need to help somebody/ When the edge of surrender’s in sight/ I’ll be ready /Forever and always/ I’m always here”… Break out those sexy red cossies and ripped bodies, Mother City lovers, because the highly anticipated Baywatch spin-off, SAF 3, is coming to gorgeous Cape Town!
A re-imagining of the cult beach rescue TV series starring David Hasselhoff, SAF 3 focuses on the Malibu Fire Department and their various rescue missions in the sea, air and fire and is set to have its permanent location at #lovecapetown ‘s most beloved beach, Camps Bay.
The brainchild of Baywatch creator creator Gregory J Bonnann and writer Tai Collins, SAF 3 will be filmed in co-production with Kalahari Pictures, producers of District 9. A major scoop for the Fairest Cape, SAF 3 is estimated to spawn over 200 jobs and an approximately R160-million boost to the local economy.
"Greg and his team looked all over the world, including America, New Zealand and Australia, but chose Cape Town for the production value, labour force and gorgeous scenery they could get here. Cape Town has proved again that it’s a film-friendly destination and it’s reaping the benefits.” says Michael Murphy from Kalahari Pictures.
While the Hoff himself graced our sunny shores back in 2011 for the Loerie Awards, we can expect to see the likes of handsome soapie star Texas Battle ( The Bold and The Beautiful), 80s action hero Dolph Lundgren and newcomers Danielle Anderson, Jocelyn Osorio, Katie Meehan, Lydia Hull, and Travis Burns strip to their swimming costumes and save lives. Filming of season one of SAF3 in Cape Town will wrap on Friday 13 December, 2013.
Cape Town is no stranger to getting the Hollywood treatment – from setting the beautiful scene for blockbusters like Searching for Sugar Man, Invictus, Safe House, Dark Tide and most recently hosting Taylor Swift, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes and Jeff Bridges as they film the sci-fi thriller The Giver; to being home to some of the world’s top film-makers, the Mother City is quite the silver screen siren.
